In the period between 30th May and 8th of June 2019, three participants from CET Platform Macedonia were selected to represent North Macedonia on the Training Course of Youth workers on Conflict Resolution, hosted by Network for European Citizenship and Identity (NECI) in Paralimni, Cyprus.
Together with participants from 7 other countries, our volunteers discussed on topics connected with conflict resolution, studied the methods and ways how to solve a conflict situation and made simulations of all the stages of the conflict. The participants of the project had the chance to act out or simulate one conflict situation in public, and gather the reaction of the people that were there.
This way, they experienced how involved people tend to be while there is a conflict situation happening in front of them. Another interesting activity of the training course was learning about the process of mediation. The participants had the possibility to place themselves in the role of a mediator, while previously learning about the ways to solve a conflict situation. Additionally, the simulation taught the participants about active listening and its importance. The training course included icebreakers, name games, team-building, World cafe – a blending of international ideas, NGO fair, intercultural night and many more.
At the end of the training course, the participants were asked to make a booklet of all the activities; collecting pictures, making interviews of the participants and making video of the activities.
Peace is not the absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means.
