“New faith in the Future: Sufism and Islam” was the name of the 2nd project in the cluster of three projects funded by Erasmus+ which took part from 16 th – 24 th July in the ASHA Centre in Flaxley in the United Kingdom. There were seven participant countries including Macedonia, Croatia, Hungary, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and the UK.
The artistic side of the Sufism was the sliding notion throughout the whole project. For that purpose the participants did Sufi drawing, immersed into Sufi writings, visited a Sufi centre in Birmingham to give more practical and theoretical touch to the experience, and retold stories based on Sufi stories. As well as the Sufism, thus the topic of Islam was equally elaborated. The participants got to know the fundamental core of the religion by reading segments of the Qur’an and discussing their possible meaning. The workshop was organized through interactive and creative activities, either in pair work or group work, where the participants had the opportunity to freely share their ideas on the topic assigned.
Working in small groups helped the participants to understand better the essence of the religion, to reject their judgmental attitude toward Islam, and to be more open-minded with people in their societies who practice this religion. It raised participant’s awareness to the topic and expanded their knowledge.
