From July 17 to July 24, Golden Sands, Bulgaria, served as the focal point for the global initiative “Critical Thinkers in Action.” A week-long voyage of growth, learning, and enjoyment brought together the young minds of five nations: N. Macedonia, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, and Greece. This initiative, which had five participants from each nation, offered a venue for developing critical thinking abilities and investigating different strategies for doing so.
The organizers ensured that every moment of the week was utilized smartly, with an intricately planned schedule that left no room for boredom or idleness. Each day began with interactive workshops and discussions, covering various aspects of critical thinking. The facilitators brought their insights to the table, creating an intellectually stimulating atmosphere.
Throughout the project, participants engaged in immersive activities that allowed them to grasp the essence of critical thinking. They were encouraged to challenge assumptions, question established norms, and analyze information from multiple perspectives. These activities not only honed their critical thinking skills but also fostered an environment of open-mindedness and mutual respect. Recognizing that knowledge alone is insufficient, the project emphasized the practical implementation of critical thinking in real-life scenarios. Participants were encouraged to collaborate on problem-solving exercises, engage in debates, and design innovative solutions to pressing challenges. For example, participants embraced various hands-on activities, including the symbolic act of building two bridges in separate groups and then connecting them without visual cues. This exercise exemplified the essence of critical thinking, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, effective communication, and adaptability in problem-solving. Additionally, the project went beyond the confines of the workshop space and interacted with the local community to implement their learning in real-life situations. By the end of the project, we they not only understood critical thinking but also gained confidence in their abilities to apply it effectively.
While the project had a strong focus on learning, it was equally a celebration of diverse cultures and friendships. The participants formed strong bonds as they shared their experiences and learned from one another’s perspectives. Social events, cultural exchanges, and team-building activities added a delightful touch to the week, making it an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
The project created a profound impact, leaving a lasting impression that extended far beyond its conclusion. Not only did it equip participants with invaluable critical thinking skills, but it also fostered a sense of responsibility to apply these newfound abilities in their personal and professional lives, thus empowering them to become catalysts of positive change in their communities.
