Last May, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the “Non Formal Lab – Theatre Edition” training course in Presenzano, Italy. From May 2nd to 8th, this experience was all about deepening our understanding of non-formal education (NFE) and exploring how theatre can be a powerful tool for promoting civic engagement and participation.
Throughout the week, we delved into various educational approaches and models, focusing on how theatre can be used in non-formal settings to inspire action and drive positive change. We developed practical skills in designing and delivering NFE activities centered around theatre, while also gaining insights into addressing cultural diversity in our work with youth. The hands-on workshops and collaborative sessions were both enlightening and empowering.
One of the highlights of the course was the opportunity to exchange ideas and best practices with fellow participants from across Europe. This not only strengthened our professional network but also provided valuable resources and methods that we can now bring back and implement in our local communities. I left Italy with a renewed sense of purpose and an arsenal of innovative approaches to integrate NFE and theatre into our youth programs.
