From 18th to 25th of November, 2 participants from CET Platforma Skopje attended the seminar “Let them be heard” held in Braga, Portugal. The main focus of the seminar was sharing realities and discussing the situation of the migrants and refugees with the other participants coming from Portugal, Poland, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Romania, Croatia, and Hungary.
During the first day of the seminar we got to know each other, we set the expectations and contributions and created a safe space for active participation and sharing personal experiences. That prepared us for the rest of the days in which we had a presentation about the situation with the youth and refugees in our country as well as the challenges and problems that they are facing. Also, we have learned about the situation in the other countries and had a discussion about similar patterns depending on the geographical locations and shared positive examples and practices for the integration of the refugees. Deeper into this topic, we have learned the difference between being a migrant, a refugee and asylum seeker as well as the international laws that are protecting their rights.
Through different non-formal methods like simulation and theatre, we experienced the obstacles that the refugees are facing and discussed different ways and approaches to working with them on overcoming these obstacles. Also, we practised our communication skills and learned the importance of the language and the barriers that the refugees are facing.
As part of the seminar, we had 2 intercultural nights in which we presented our food and some facts about North Macedonia and heard more about the other participant countries and tasted their food. In our free time, we also had a chance to explore the beautiful city of Braga, make new friendships and unforgettable memories.
Overall, attending this seminar is a precious experience not just for professional, but also for personal growth.
