Ideas and Actions for New Europe course took place at The Asha Centre, England, from the 19th to the 27th of September. There were participants from various countries around Europe and a lot of volunteers, in general people who value ASHA and wanted to get closure and share their appreciation for the last time. Since Brexit happened, England is not anymore funded by the Erasmus+ programme, so this was the last granted course, and we had the opportunity to be there one last time. The aim of this course was to define the concept of Europe, in geographical, political and personal point of view, to realize the cultural similarities between us and to break the borders of prejudice and separation. It was a specifically valuable and impactful topic for the last training course since now Britain is not part of the programme anymore. The setting was perfect for realizing the objectives of the course – The Asha Centre is surrounded by breathtaking nature and incredible spots ideal for introspection and reflection, including a rose garden, an apple orchard, and a serene stream. So besides focusing on the political problems we had the time and opportunities to focus on ourselves, our own feelings and memories connected with the Asha Centre, as it left such a big impact on a lot of people, making it their safe space.
The main activity we planned during the course was making a final farewell to this special place in the form of a ritual. We planned, we visualized, we learned songs, and we invited a lot of people who have a deep connection with the Asha Centre. Each participant was asked to participate in the preparatory activities in the way of their liking. We formed multiple groups, a decoration team, a kitchen team, a gratitude team, a logistics team, and we all worked together to a united goal, making the weekend unforgettable.
During the event, a heartfelt ceremony unfolded, where volunteers and trainers who dedicated their time to the Asha Centre were honored with certificates. Later, we assembled for a farewell ritual, encircling a crackling fire as we harmonized in song and bid adieu by releasing symbolic tokens into the flames, while expressing our heartfelt appreciation. Following this, we ceremoniously planted a delicate cherry blossom tree, infusing the soil with water that had passed through each of our hands, symbolizing our collective effort and naming it the Union tree. The day culminated in joyous festivities, as we united in celebration and camaraderie.
Generally, during the course, participants came back to their second home, embraced expression, and meditation tools and methodologies that would help them get closure, connect with nature once again and show gratitude to the place that helped people discover their inner selves.
